I've Watched This Coast Grow for 40 Years — Here's Why Seaflower Caught My Eye

I've lived in Sarasota for nearly forty years, and I still remember when Cattlemen Road was "sooooo far out there."

I remember how excited we were to get a McDonald's at Bee Ridge and Cattlemen. I remember the Walmart, too — the one that used to sit across the street from where it is now. To this day I have no idea why they moved it. But that's Sarasota for you: it's been here a while, and it grew outward from Downtown and the beaches, the way a lot of established coastal towns do.

Bradenton tells the same story. The River Walk area has some of our region's most historic homes. Closer to home in Sarasota, neighborhoods like Southgate, Gulf Gate, and West of the Trail have been the popular, established choices for decades. And because those pockets grew in first, there's one thing you'll notice if you go looking: very few newer construction communities on the west side of town, in either Bradenton or Sarasota.

Which is exactly what I love about Seaflower.

Seaflower sits right at Cortez Road and 75th Street in Bradenton — just down the road from the Cortez Bridge, which carries you straight over to Anna Maria Island and Bradenton Beach. It's a rare thing on this side of town: a brand-new, master-planned lifestyle community going up in an area where "new construction" has mostly meant one house at a time, not an entire neighborhood.

What makes it work is the balance: it's an affordable way into new construction, and yet you're still minutes from the beach. Homes start in the $400s and range up past $1M for the luxury Issa models, so there's real range here — first home, next home, or forever home. Multiple builders are at work in the community, and it's being developed by the same team behind Celebration, Florida, which tells you a lot about the intent: this is a place built to know your neighbors.

Ride your bike or golf cart to the Publix, the pool, or the tennis courts. Jog or walk the loop around Lake Flores. This is a community built to be lived in, not just driven through.
